Build a clock time

Put a number before for an hour:一時(いちじ),三時(さんじ), and八時(はちじ).

Add for minutes. Its counter pronunciation changes:五分(ごふん) but十分(じゅっぷん). Learn each useful combination aloud.

means “half,” so八時半(はちじはん)is half past eight.

In a time expression, 午前八時 is 8 a.m. and午後三時 is 3 p.m.
